Display & Remarketing Management

Remarketing That Reaches Buyers, Not Just Anyone Who Bounced

Most Display budgets get spent showing banners to people who were never going to buy, on placements nobody would choose, measured by a metric that proves nothing. We build the version that works: tight audiences, ruthless exclusions, and attribution you can defend to a CFO.

Audience segments built from behaviour and value, not one catch-all "all visitors" list
Placement and app exclusions applied before spend, not after the waste
Measured on incremental contribution, not view-through conversions
Google Ads management across ecommerce and lead generation in the US, Canada and India.

Standalone Display Campaigns Are Being Retired

On 26 May 2026 Google announced that Google Display Ads has a new home in Demand Gen. The Google Display Network is being folded into Demand Gen as the home for visual advertising across sites, videos and apps.

A migration tool began rolling out in June 2026. New Display campaigns will be created inside Demand Gen later, and remaining eligible campaigns will eventually be migrated automatically. Google expects the transition to complete by 2027.

QuestionAnswer
Can I still run Display-only?Yes. Inside Demand Gen, using channel controls to isolate the Google Display Network.
Is the inventory changing? No. The campaign shell changed, not the reach. Display advertisers can still access GDN inventory.
Should I build new Standard Display campaigns? No. Build Demand Gen with GDN channel controls instead so the structure does not need rebuilding later.
What happens if I do nothing?Eligible campaigns will eventually be migrated automatically, which means your team may inherit a structure nobody reviewed.
Is GDN on by default after migration? For migrated Display campaigns, Google says GDN is opted in by default during migration. Still verify every channel setting after transfer.
The risk is not that Display disappears. The risk is that migration happens without a human checking inventory, controls, exclusions, budget behaviour and reporting after the transfer.

Remarketing Is a Supporting Channel. We Treat It Like One.

Remarketing does not create demand. It converts demand you already generated somewhere else, and it keeps existing customers coming back. Run in the right order it compounds everything above it. Run first, it burns budget reaching people who were never close to buying.

Where it earns its place

Warm demand and repeat value

Re-engaging visitors who viewed, added to cart or started a form; staying present through long consideration windows; winning back lapsed customers and driving repeat orders.

Where it wastes money

Cold reach pretending to be strategy

Broad prospecting with no first-party data, one "all website visitors" list, weak conversion tracking, or B2B audiences that are easier to reach somewhere else.

What we do first

Check the account foundation

Confirm Search and Shopping coverage is maxed within targets, verify conversion tracking, and build the audience architecture before spending on Display.

If your Search campaigns are still losing impression share to budget, remarketing is not your next move. We will tell you that rather than sell you a campaign.

How We Build Remarketing That Survives Scrutiny

01

Audience architecture

Segments by behaviour and value: cart abandoners, product viewers, form starters, past purchasers, high-value customers and lapsed customers. Each gets different messaging, frequency and budget.

02

Exclusions before spend

Converters excluded, placement and app category exclusions applied upfront, and mobile app inventory handled deliberately instead of by default.

03

Frequency capped to a real number

Someone who has seen your ad forty times this week is not undecided. They are annoyed. We set caps per audience and monitor them.

04

Recency windows tied to your sales cycle

A seven-day window suits impulse ecommerce. A ninety-day window suits a kitchen renovation. Most accounts use the default and never revisit it.

05

Measurement you can defend

View-through conversions are easy to fool yourself with. We report on incremental contribution and assisted conversions, and call out credit that Display did not cause.

06

Migration handled deliberately

If you are running standalone Display, we move you into Demand Gen with GDN channel controls and settings verified after transfer.

Display & Remarketing FAQs

Are Google Display campaigns being discontinued?

Standalone Display campaigns are, yes. Google confirmed in May 2026 that Google Display Ads is moving into Demand Gen. The network itself is unchanged, and you can still serve exclusively on the Display Network by using channel controls inside Demand Gen.

Do I need to migrate my Display campaigns now?

A migration tool started rolling out in June 2026, and eligible campaigns will eventually be migrated automatically. Moving deliberately is better than being moved because settings, channel controls and reporting should be checked after transfer.

Should I build new Standard Display campaigns in 2026?

No. Build Demand Gen with channel controls restricted to the Display Network instead. Anything built as a standalone Display campaign now will need migrating later.

Is remarketing worth it for a small budget?

Often yes, because you are reaching people who already know you. But it only works if conversion tracking is sound and audiences are properly segmented. On a small budget, a single untargeted list can waste more than it returns.

How do I know if remarketing is actually working?

Not from view-through conversions alone. Look at assisted conversions, incrementality, changes in new-visitor conversion rate when remarketing is paused, and repeat purchase rate for customer-list audiences.

How long should my remarketing window be?

As long as your real sales cycle. Impulse ecommerce purchases justify short windows. Considered purchases like renovations, B2B software or professional services justify longer ones.

Can you remarket to people who already bought?

Yes, as a deliberate repeat-purchase or upsell campaign with its own messaging. What you should not do is leave converters inside acquisition audiences.

Does Performance Max already do my remarketing?

Partly, and that is worth checking. With strict efficiency targets, PMax tends to take the easiest conversions available, and remarketing is often the easiest. We check for that in the audit.
